Now or Never by Jamie Canosa ~ Blog Tour and Review by Sarah

SYNOPSIS

To move on,
Leave the past behind,
And build a new life with Jay.

That’s all Em wanted. After everything they’d been through together, they were both overdue their ‘happily ever after’. Too bad the world doesn’t work that way. Memories last longer than dreams and Em’s fears continue to plague her both day and night, interfering with that new life she so desperately craves.

To start over,
Secure a future,
And give Em the life she deserves.

That was Jay’s plan, but the past isn’t done with them, yet. While Em still struggles to overcome the ghosts of her past, Jay is forced to come face to face with his. When the skeletons in his closet step back into the light, Jay must decide what he will do—and what he will sacrifice—to protect Em from them.

Against all odds, Em and Jay are on the verge of having everything they’ve ever wanted. They’ve fought for it before, but is their love strong enough to endure any more heartache? The time has come for each of them to choose for themselves whether or not they will allow the past to continue to corrupt their future. And, together, they must decide, will it be . . . NOW OR NEVER?

SARAH'S 4-STAR REVIEW

Now or Never is book two in Jamie Canosa's Fight or Flight series.  If you haven't read book one this review will have spoilers.

After the truly tragic happenings of Fight or Flight, Jay and Em have found a small piece of stability in the storm of their lives.  They have a roof over their heads, regular incomes, and most of all, each other.  Of course things aren't easy, neither of them have their high school diplomas and they are working in a dive diner.  But everything that they have is theirs, and no one can take it away from them.

However, thinking that their past was was behind them and that they could just start anew was a mistake.  The people and consequences of their own experiences continue to paint their futures.  As these pieces of their pasts continue to come between them and their happiness together it becomes clear that they will have to face the past in order to have the future that they want.

I was very happy with the way that Fight or Flight ended.  That being said I knew that there was so much more to Jay and Em's story.  They were just getting to a point where they were having a normal life but there was still so much more that they had to deal with.  All of the scars from their pasts were still their and raw and definitely not well healed.

While Jay was broken in Fight or Flight, he was always the stronger of the two.  In Now or Never we get to see more of Jay and just how bad things are for him.  It was quite heartbreaking to experience the hurt that holds on to.  I never once questioned his motives in the decisions that he makes because the reasons are clear as day.  It was just so sad to know what was happening with him.

Em, sweet Em, she's still so incredibly broken and sad.  When the past starts to rear it's ugly head with her I really wasn't sure that she was going to be able to keep moving past the events that brought her to where she was.

Jamie Canosa has once more told a story that made me want to keep reading even when I had other things to do.  I felt that I was invested in what was happening to the characters.  I had to know what was going to happen with Em and Jay.  They have just had such a horrific life up and all I wanted was for them to be happy and have a good life.  That they had to go through so much more hurt and sadness before they can get to the happiness, they so deserve, broke my heart.

Now or Never was very well written and Jamie was able to pull emotional responses from me at every page turn.  I love Jay and Em's I hope that we get to see more of them in the future.  In the mean time I'll be impatiently waiting for Mason and Ashlyn's story, Win or Lose.

EXCERPT

There was all of this talk in the world about love being some kind of ultimate power. Fairytales of love conquering all. It was bullshit. In reality, the real world, the world they lived in, it didn’t matter how fiercely he loved Em. An idiot with a gun or a bastard with fists and foul intentions would always be waiting in the shadows. Always ready to inflict more harm than his love could ever heal.

His only chance, his only hope of protecting the truly fragile thing that love was, was to keep it as far from him as possible. In Jay’s fucked up world, the only true, undeniable power love held was the power to destroy.
