*** REVIEW *** THE SAVAGE RAGE OF FALLEN GODS by KC Cross / ja Huss

Love can ruin the best of men—even the God of Love himself.

Love.
When mutual, it’s Heaven on Earth.
When one-sided, it can tear you apart.
There is no greater weapon than the heartsick soul.
That is the power I wield, for I am the God of Love.
No one has power like me.
No one can poison a heart and pollute a mind the way I can.
That is why the gods kicked me out.
That is why they made me fall.

But now I’m back.
I’m going to ruin kings.
I’m going to destroy gods.
I’m going to crush the whole wicked world with the power of the broken heart.

Well, that was the plan.
And then, out of nowhere, there she was.
After two-thousand years, there she was.
The one who made me love her.
The one who stole my heart and then broke it.

She is how the gods ruined me.
And now it’s my turn to ruin her.

The Savage Rage of Fallen Gods is a story of a broken heart. It is a tale of regret, and promises, and how revenge can darken a god’s soul. It is a standalone book in a brand new series by New York Times bestselling author, JA Huss, writing as KC Cross.

In this spin-off of Julie’s Monsters of St. Marks series, Eros returns with Pie’s sister, Callistina. I loved Pie and Pell from the St. Marks series because they are such unique and entertaining characters. Callistina and Eros continue with that interesting and unique model. I know I say this every time I read a JA Huss book, but you never know what to expect until you read The End.

I didn’t know what to think of Callistina initially because she appeared so crazy. She was a queen and the first daughter of Saturn. She did some things in her past that set up the cursed life that sent her to Savage Falls as a human. This poor monster is miserable. Imagine that she may have to take “showers like the peasants.” Chuckle. To get through her day, Callistina dresses up in a crazy getup to simulate her former non-human appearance and wanders around town, saying, “You shall call me queen.” She made me laugh a little.

Eros is the fallen God of love. He is a god who is in a lot of personal pain because of his current situation. He knows why he is cursed and sent to the “Realm of Pennsylvania.” He wanted access to Pie’s magic. He isn’t a nice person often, but something about him touches my heart. He is reflecting on his past when Callistina pulls him from the mundane life of Savage Fall into an adventure to reverse their curses.

I loved this journey. The story is original and lively. Many of the gods, monsters, and creatures that we encounter are based on Greek mythology, which I love. The story is enormously engaging from the start. I love the way Cross expands her atmospheric, magical monster world. The Savage Rage of Fallen Gods is the perfect story for fans of eccentric and endearing characters. In true Cross/Huss form, there are twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. The ending is wonderfully satisfying and left me wanting more in this series. I recommend this book to fantasy fans, lovers of a good story, and unique and entertaining characters. You won't regret it.

I am always grateful when I receive one of Julie’s books early. Now I can’t wait for the audio. I know her narrators will be perfect for these characters. I also know I will get additional insight into the characters the second time around with a listen. Great job ja Huss.
