Owen is the organizer
of the Montgomery clan, running the family's construction business with
an iron fist - and an even less flexible spreadsheet. And though his
brothers give him grief for his compulsive list making, the Inn
BoonsBoro is about to open right on schedule. The only thing Owen didn't
plan for was Avery MacTavish....
Avery's popular pizza place is
right across the street from the inn, giving her a first-hand look at
its amazing renovation — and a newfound appreciation for Owen. Since he
was her first boyfriend when they were kids, Owen has never been far
from Avery's thoughts. But the attraction she's feeling for him now is
far from innocent.
As Avery and Owen cautiously take their
relationship to another level, the opening of the inn gives the whole
town of BoonsBoro a reason to celebrate. But Owen's hard work has only
begun. Getting Avery to let down her guard is going to take longer than
he expected — and so will getting her to realize that her first
boyfriend is going to be her last....
AUDIOBOOK
I love when I find I book on my shelf that I've had for a long time, and it turns out to be a great read. These characters are some of the best.
Book Two of the Inn Boonsboro trilogy is
The Last Boyfriend
. Owen Montgomery and Avery MacTavish have been friends since they
were kids. Her father, Willy B was best friends with Tom Montgomery
since forever. It is a family tradition of sorts. The two families support
each other through thick and thin, births and deaths, and everything
life throws at them. When Tom Montgomery died, Willy B stepped in as a
surrogate dad when the boys needed someone.
When Avery’s mom deserted her dad and Avery, the Montgomery’s became her family. Justine was more of a
mother to her anyway. At eight, Owen Montgomery proposed to Avery with a
gumball machine ring to cheer her up. Now he is on a quest to be
Avery’s last boyfriend. Everyone knows it except Avery and Owen.
The
Last Boyfriend is an excellent “friends to lovers” story in the Inn
Boonsboro trilogy. Avery and Owen are the focus couple in this story.
What draws me to this couple is the opposites attract theme. Owen is the
middle child in the Montgomery clan. He is a planner with lists,
timelines, and goals. He researches, writes down his theories, then draws
out his timelines for the business and his personal life.
Avery
is the only child and the love of her father’s life. She is a “fly by
the seat of her pants” girl. She is clutter, chaos, with a stir it up
attitude. They are comfortable as good friends and don’t want to disrupt
their balance with a relationship that could upset the apple cart. You
know how that goes because the heart wants what it wants, and their
hearts were connected at eight.
There is a little angst, and
while it is a little traumatic for Avery and ruffles Owen’s feathers, it
doesn’t take over the smooth delivery of the story. Theirs is a sweet
story. In addition to Avery and Owen, we continue to experience the fun
times with the other characters we met in the first book.
Beckett
and Claire are moving forward. We have more “man times” with The
Mongomery brothers teaching Claire’s kids about male bonding and
brotherly love. They are so cute. Lizzie, the ghost of Inn Boonsboro, is
back with her hijinks. Like typical small-town America, the townsfolk
wander in and out with praise and opinions.
I
broke down and used some of my audio credits to buy the trilogy. I know
these will be repeats when I need a good pick-me-up. There is so much
small town, and family love in these stories that you can’t help but get
caught in the virtual hugs.
MacLeod Andrews is the narrator for this series. I
listened to most of this book and read along when I could. He does an
excellent job.
5 STARS
FOR THE BOOK AND AUDIO
