#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents the first novel in a compelling trilogy about three brothers bound by fate, blood, and a timeless enemy.

In the town of Hawkins Hollow, it's called The Seven. Every seven years, on the seventh day of the seventh month, strange things happen. It began when three young boys--Caleb, Fox, and Gage--went on a camping trip to The Pagan Stone...

It is only February, but Caleb Hawkins--descendant of the town founders--has already seen and felt the stirrings of evil. Though he can never forget the beginning of the terror in the woods twenty-one years ago, the signs have never been this strong before. Cal will need the help of his best friends Fox and Gage, but surprisingly he must rely on a stranger as well.

Reporter Quinn Black came to Hawkins Hollow hoping to make its eerie happenings the subject of her new book. She too can see the evil the locals cannot, somehow connecting her to the town--and to Cal. As winter turns to spring, they will shed their inhibitions, surrendering to a desire that will grow and form the cornerstone of a group of men and women bound by the fight against what is to come from out of the darkness...

Blood Brothers begins with three young boys (Caleb Hawkins, Fox O’Dell, and Gage Turner) on a secret adventure to celebrate their 10th birthday.  They are going to camp out in an area that is reportedly haunted with a mystic pool and stones that many claim is an altar where those accused of witchcraft, were sacrificed.  Hawkins Hollow’s secrets and wizardry are released, unknowingly by the boys’ quest.  Now every seven years, the demons resurface causing madness and mayhem in the area.

Fast forward twenty-one years and the early indications are that this will be the worse year ever.  Caleb agrees to meet with an author, Quinn Black, who researches and writes about paranormal events.  Soon she is joined by Cybil and Layla.  Cybil is Quinn’s researcher. Layla is staying at the same hotel with Quinn.  They both see a strange paranormal occurrence the same time, but no one else sees it.  Before long, they realize that all six players have some connection to the area.  They must find the connection to figure out how to defeat the demons.

This is one of those stories that I don’t normally pick up, but I’m glad I did. I really enjoyed how the wizardry and witchcraft is set up in the prologue then further expanded in the story.  The romance between Caleb and Quinn is well done.  Caleb is very concerned about what is going to happen to his town.  As a Hawkins, he is protective of the residents, and blames himself for the evil that is released during his childhood adventure.  His fear for the future keeps him from any relationships or thoughts of a family.

Quinn is my favorite type of female character.  She isn’t ruled by any man, but she is a good partner.  She isn’t afraid to tell Caleb how she feels and what she thinks.  Instead of walking away, she gives Caleb time to work through his feelings and concerns while staying strong and determined.  She is the yin to his yang.

It is clear from the start that this is Caleb’s book.  Its focus is Caleb’s fears, family, his connection to Quinn, and his friendships with his childhood mates.  There is a decent introduction to Fox, Gage, Laya, and Cybil to whet the appetite for more.  The series story arc is set up nicely with a demon that is scary to the bone.  I’m looking forward to seeing how the next books reveal the family connections, secrets, and romances.  Blood Brothers is a great beginning to this trilogy.
