FBI Special Agent Ava McLane solves crimes; she doesn’t witness them. When she’s trapped in a mall without her weapon as a shooter picks off victims, she hides with a wounded teen and prays for her survival.

But that’s only the beginning…

An epidemic of mass shootings has swept across Oregon. The young shooters terrify the public, committing random murders before taking their own lives. The task force assembled to solve the case—which includes Ava’s boyfriend, detective Mason Callahan—remains stumped. And on top of this chaos, Ava’s troubled twin sister reappears, throwing Ava’s already-tumultuous life into a tailspin.

An old-fashioned cop with a strong sense of duty, Mason struggles to find the cause of the shootings as workaholic Ava spins ever closer to breaking down. But can one detective save the lives of countless innocents—and prevent the woman he loves from going over the edge

Spiraled starts with some tense moments right out of the gate. After her yoga class, Ava and her friend Misty are walking through the mall when a lone gunman starts firing on the customers.

Misty goes down from a shot to her leg. Ava quickly pulls her behind a kiosk for protection then forms a torniquet to slow the bleeding. Now Ava must hope the police and EMS team get to them in time to save her friend.

Ava manages to get herself unofficially on the task force with Callahan and her partner Zander. For her sanity, she needs to help figure out what is behind the shooting. When similar shootings happen across the state the situation becomes more tense. Each time the shooter takes his own life before the police can interrogate him. What is making these young men, who, according to friends and family, never displayed violent tendencies.

What an interesting read! The case is a tough one as there doesn’t appear to be a link between any of the shooters. In addition, Ava is having a personal crisis. She is still recovering from injuries from her last case. Her twin sister, Jayne is causing Ava anxiety. Jayne is unpredictable and reaching out to Ava. Ava’s experience with Jayne, tells her that she is getting played, but the doctors who are treating Jayne don’t see it. Mason is doing his best to protect Ava. He is stressed and wondering how to help as he sees her falling apart. You have to love Mason.

Spiraled is a good blend of police work and romance. Eliott has set up a nice plot twist with characters the readers can care about. Ava and Mason are working hard to make their relationship work while their job, family, and the past set up roadblocks.

I enjoyed following the task force on their quest to solving these crimes. Spiraled is an entertaining and suspenseful story. The subplot of Ava and Mason’s romance continues from the previous books. I really like this couple. As their relationship develops, you can’t help but root for them. They do not give up on one another. They talk about their concerns like adults. I am looking forward to the book. I can’t wait for more on Zander’s story. Spiraled is great adventure.
