I was just your normal twenty-something with seven associate degrees and no idea what I wanted to do with my life. That is, until I died… Well, almost.

As if a near-death experience at the hands of an old coffeemaker wasn’t embarrassing enough, I woke up to find I could talk to animals. Or rather one animal in particular.

His full name is Octavius Maxwell Ricardo Edmund Frederick Fulton, but since that’s way too long for anyone to remember, I’ve taken to calling him Octo-Cat. He talks so fast he can be difficult to understand, but seems to be telling me that his late owner didn’t die of natural causes like everyone believes.

Well, now it looks like I no longer have a choice, apparently my life calling is to serve as Blueberry Bay’s first ever pet whisperer P.I while maintaining my façade as a paralegal at the offices of Fulton, Thompson & Associates.

I just have one question: How did Dr. Doolittle make this gig look so easy?

This is a cute novella that I chose to complete a Furry Sleuth reading challenge. It is a fun start to the series, Pet Whisperer PI. The main character, Angie doesn’t have a clue what she wants to do with her life even though she is in her twenties with seven associate degrees. The only thing she knows so far is that her grandmother is forcing her to make decisions which is how she ended up working as a paralegal.

I like Angie. She is a little flaky but loveable. On the morning she over sleeps and doesn't have time to stop for the meeting coffee. Instead, she tries to use an old coffeepot which electrocutes her and sends her to the emergency room. If that isn’t bad enough, when she returns to the office, she finds she can talk to and understand Octavius Maxwell Ricardo Edmund Frederick Fulton, her boss's aunt's cat.

Octo-cat, as Angie calls him, pulls her into his quest to find out who murderer his owner. The quest these two go on is fun and entertaining. The book is a super-fast read with some good prissy cat moments. The timeline and the clues are a little vague. In fact, there isn’t a lot of investigating by this duo. They more or less fall into the clues. Angie asks a few questions, and snoops around the office then eventually stumbles onto the murderer.

The only suspense is at the end when Angie confronts the killer. If you are like me, and read a lot of intense, dark thrillers, an occasional break with a cozy, furry sleuth is what you need. The relationship between Angie and Octo is the best part of the book and makes it worth reading. Kitty Confidential is $.99 at the moment, which isn’t half bad.
