A Thriller Award nominee for Best eBook Original Novel... Book 1 in award-winning author Alexandra Sokoloff's riveting new Huntress FBI series about a driven FBI agent on the hunt for that most rare of all killers: a female serial.

FBI Special Agent Matthew Roarke is closing in on a bust of a major criminal organization in San Francisco when he witnesses an undercover member of his team killed right in front of him on a busy street, an accident Roarke can’t believe is coincidental. His suspicions put him on the trail of a mysterious young woman who appears to have been present at each scene of a years-long string of “accidents” and murders, and who may well be that most rare of killers: a female serial.

Roarke’s hunt for her takes him across three states...while in a small coastal town, a young father and his five-year old son, both wounded from a recent divorce, encounter a lost and compelling young woman on the beach and strike up an unlikely friendship without realizing how deadly she may be.

As Roarke uncovers the shocking truth of her background, he realizes she is on a mission of her own, and must race to capture her before more blood is shed.

This is a new release of a previously published edition.

I love this book with its unique take on the FBI thriller genre.  In fact, the premise captivated me before I read the first sentence. Huntress Moon is an FBI thriller with a little paranormal (not the best word but there is an above normal mysterious atmosphere) underpinning the story’s events.

FBI Special Agent Matthew Roarke was called to the FBI at a young age.  Events in the world sparked his need to get the bad guys.  His gift to get in the mind of a killer helped him advance quickly to the BAU, a highly sought-after position.  His quest has Roarke on the trail of a crime syndicate when he sees his undercover cop run over by a tractor trailer.  Was this an accident?  Witnesses confirmed Roarke’s thought that a woman spoke to him.  What did she say to his friend that cost a good cop his life?

Huntress Moon is a terrific story full of mystery, angst, murder, suspense, and questions.  Who is this woman?  How does she track her prey?  The story is dark and scary.   I don’t know what to say about these characters except they are different.  The Huntress is on a mission that has its roots in her childhood.  Her story is well-known to law enforcement, but only Roarke knows a deeper connection.

Matthew Roarke is a good cop and investigator.  His mission is to stop the bad guys, man, or woman.  He is workaholic who let the job rob him of his personal life.  It is a fun to get in his head and try to figure him out.  What a battle when these two main characters lock horns!

Huntress Moon is a gripping mystery that is compulsively readable or in my case, listenable.  I couldn’t turn it off.  When the huntress encounters a young boy and his father, I thought I was going to jump out of my chair.  My stomach was in knots as I turned the pages.  Fear for this boy and his father horrified me.  I needed to find out how the huntress was going to use them.

Alexandra Sokoloff crafted a well-written story with strong central characters and interesting support characters.  I was drawn into the mystery and totally obsessed on the characters and their development.  The need to know the backstories, and how it all fits together is mesmerizing.  From the start there is a sadness lurking under the surface that makes me wonder what is next.

Huntress Moon sets up a series of six books.  I can’t imagine where the author is going to take this story, but I’m definitely onboard for the trip.  I highly recommend this book to mystery/thriller lovers.
