*** REVIEW BLITZ *** BEAUTIFUL MISTAKE by Vi Keeland

The first time I met Caine West was in a bar. He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out. When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight—telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass. You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend--smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married. He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he'd done. Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant. Only it turned out, the man I'd just told off wasn't the right guy. Oops. My mistake. Embarrassed, I slunk out without an apology. I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right? That’s what I thought…until I walked into class the next morning. Well, hello Professor West, I’m your new teaching assistant. I’ll be working under you…figuratively speaking. Although the literal interpretation might not be such a bad thing—working under Professor West. This was going to be interesting… ADD TO GOODREADS

 AMAZON PAPERBACK

WOW! What a wonderful story! Honestly, I anxiously await every new book by Ms. Keeland.  I know before I open the book that I am going to enjoy the journey.  Her latest book is Beautiful Mistake.  This story is the perfect combination of a tightly plotted story, a lovely romance, good humor, an unexpected twist all in a standalone.

Beautiful Mistake is an incredible fusion of mistaken identity, loss, and secrets that unfold at a perfectly executed pace.  There are so many aspects of this story that I like it is impossible to touch on all of them here; I'll mention the most important to me.

The sweet slow-building romance between Rachael Martin and Caine West is among my favorites this year.  Ms. Keeland makes you fall in love with these character from the start.  Rachael believes that Caine is the married man who lied to her best friend and broke her heart.  Oops, it’s a mistaken identity.  It is a funny monolog because Rachel doesn't want to hear anything from the jerk.  Then the next day she finds out that the man she accused of cheating is actually Professor West her new boss.  Can Rachel grovel enough to be forgiven?  She needs this job as teaching assistant for the substantial discount on her tuition.

The characters are a perfect match.  Caine West is an interesting and complex character.  He was on the verge of his dream when things fell apart.  To pull himself back to reality, he returns to school and now teaches music.  He has a reputation as an instructor, don’t be late, put forth your best effort, or face the consequences.  He is also suffering from secrets that won’t let him go.

Rachael Martin is a struggling graduate student.  She works as a TA to get the tuition discount.  Rachel also works as many hours as possible in a neighborhood bar to supplement her income.  She gets into predicaments and has a hard time getting to class on time. Rachael is sassy, strong, loyal, and fun.  She also has secrets that are hidden deep.  The witty dialog, emotional situations, and a beautiful study in Rachel’s thesis on musical therapy all add to her character.

The support characters, especially Charlie, are perfect additions to the story.  Lydia and Umberto’s story is so beautiful and heartfelt.  All reveal glimpses of the main characters that they don’t reveal on their own.  There is nothing better than a story with strong ancillary characters.

I found a certain relatability to the story.  Not because I experienced either Rachel or Caine's particular story but I understand making changes in your life because of decisions and events in my past that make me rethink what I want to be and do.  The two main characters have things to work through that sometimes appear too much for anyone to handle.

Beautiful Mistake is a delightful read. It is one of those books that just pulls you in, wraps you in its arms and holds on tight until the end.  There is an unexpected twist that I didn’t see coming near the end.  I honestly thought something else would happen and so happy with the way it turns.  The book is about everyday people who struggle to deal with the cards dealt them especially in the area of love, friends, and family.  In Vi Keeland's style, the story is creatively constructed and very well written.  Beautiful Mistake is an amazing MUST read.
