Review Going In Deep

Going In Deep is the fourth book in the Billionaire Bad Boy Series by Carly Phillips. This is the story of Julian Dane and Kendall Parker.  Julian is introduced in Going Down Easy, the first book in the series.  He is part of the original Blink team until he drops out of school because of family problems.  He never shares his problems with his friends instead he disappears and uses alcohol and drugs to deal with the pain.

Unfortunately, drugs are only part of the mistakes he makes in his life.  He uses Kendall to get to his former friends so he can sue them for, what he believes he deserves for his contributions to starting Blink. 

Going in Deep’s timeline is a year after Julian and Kendall last met.  They are both haunted by their past.  Kendall doesn’t trust men because Julian used her so easily to hurt the people she loves.  Julian is haunted because he used Kendall, a woman with mental and emotional problems. 

Kendall Parker is bipolar and Lexie’s (Going Down Easy) twin sister.  She is finally standing on her own after intensive therapy; sadly her sister doesn’t always trust her decisions regardless of how much she shows them she is on track.  Her biggest regret is that she gave her heart away to Julian Dane.

I love Kendall.  She is the best female character in the series for me.  She is strong even though it took a long time to get herself together, but now she is determined and knows what she wants.  Kendall is an animal lover and works in a rescue.  She doesn’t make a lot of money, but she gets by.  Kendall knows she has a gift and uses it to match dogs with owners.  It is hard for her many days but she doesn’t give up.  I can only imagine what it is like to fight the demons that can take over the thought mechanisms that most of us take for granted. She is one of those characters that you can’t help but cheer for.

Julian is another character that I like a lot.  He admits to his mistakes and even though it is easy to use life’s circumstances as an excuse he doesn’t.  Julian takes responsibility and works to make amends.  I like the way he fits with Kendall and the way they join forces to fight for what they want. Without a doubt, these two have a lot to work through, and it doesn’t look good at times, but they are determined.

I’ve said it before, and it is worth repeating, I am a Carly Phillips fan.  I like her romances.  They are quick reads that give me a lot of enjoyment.  For me, her books are realistic with a little dose of a fairy-tale to give the reader hope that true love is within reach for all.  Ms. Phillips has a gift and shares a good story. 

Like the other books in the series, we see the vulnerable side of the main characters.  We also see how they work hard to succeed in life, business, and love.  My only complaint is that the books are short and I feel like some scenes are glossed over a little too quickly.  Even with the epilogues that give us a glimpse of their futures, a lot is missing.  It would work better if each book had an extra chapter or two but that is me.  I like more depth.  Regardless Going in Deep like the rest of the books in the series, is a good time and a must read.
