I hired her to fix my company, to bring Marks Lingerie back to life. I didn’t expect her to become my friend. I didn’t expect to fall in love with her.
The first rule of business is to never touch your employees. I think there is another rule about not falling for your best friend—a rule against imagining the curves of her body, or the way her breathing would change if I pulled down her panties and unzipped my pants.
Now, I can’t wait any longer. I’m tossing out the rules.
Damn the company.
Damn our friendship.
Damn my fears.

Love
in Lingerie is the latest standalone novel from Alessandra Torre. The story is a friends-to-lovers romance about
Trey Marks, owner of Marks Lingerie, and his newly hired creative director Kate
Martin. Marks Lingerie is hanging on by
a thin wire. Trey doesn’t want to lose his
company and is looking for new ideas.
Kate comes from a dead-end position that she starts to hate to one with
Marks that is her dream job.
Trey and Kate have chemistry from their first meeting. There is a lot of flirting. However, Marks’ human
resources rules forbid dating among employees.
Trey knows the danger from a former
liaison that went bad. Instead of going
down the dating path, Trey and Kate become good friends. The dialogue between these two characters
is often funny and light. There are
moments of angst and pain, and there are
moments that are Hot!
What I Like:
The
Characters:
“If our relationship was
lingerie, it’d be fur-lined handcuffs, latched around you, the key lost, escape
impossible.”
The characters are fascinating from the beginning. Trey is a man who can get a woman to drop her
panties (or buy Marks lingerie) with one of his beautiful smiles. He is also a man of mystery. He has secrets that he doesn’t want to share
about his bedroom kink with Kate because he fears she will think badly of him. Trey values their friendship, and the working relationship is perfect.
Kate is a smart, career driven woman with a good heart. She wants the dream job, and Kate wants Trey
until she realizes early on that his no fraternizing rule will not bend. The rule
doesn’t keep her from fantasizing,
though. She knows her job and doesn’t
have a problem standing up to Trey when she wants to push her ideas
through. They are the perfect work
partners.
The Story:
Love
in Lingerie is a story that spans four years in the life of these two
characters. It is told in the
alternating point of view of the main characters. These two work together to bring the company
back to life all the while a solid friendship grows. The sexual attraction is always present even
when they both fight it. The affection and
respect they have for one another personally and professionally grows over time.
Ms. Torre does an excellent job of taking this couple from
friends to lovers. It is quite the
journey that is realistic and lovely with a little pain thrown in for good
measure. The reader is smack dab in the middle of the events as
they unfold. All the fun, success,
struggles, heartbreak, and joy is experienced
with the characters. The book is fast paced
and packed full of character development.
"If
you want me to fuck you, Kate, just say the word. Don’t ever be confused over
whether I want that. There’s not anything on Earth I want as badly as you. I’d
love to know if the chemistry that we have…if it could be how I imagined it."
What I didn’t
Like:
Nothing! I loved it all from beginning to end.
Love
in Lingerie is on my list of Alessandra Torre favorites. (Honestly all her books are on my list of favorites, but that’s another post.) She added a couple of surprise twists that
made me take a deep breath and occasionally panic while waiting for what will
happen next. The ending is perfectly satisfying. Love in Lingerie is a must read for
all fans of friends to lovers/office
romance hot, adorable and captivating tales.
