I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Dirty Sexy Saint is the first book in the
Dirty Sexy series by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde. I started the series with book three, an ARC
I received a couple of months ago. At
the time I wanted to go back and read about the other Kincaid brothers but
haven’t had the chance. Fortunately for
me, an ad popped up to remind me about the Kincaids. I’m glad it did and I jumped into Clay’s
story.
Clay Kincaid is the oldest
brother of the Kincaid clan. He is the
protector of his brothers a job he takes on at a young age. He takes the abuse and neglect that happens
when raised by a drug addicted mother and the “John” of the day. As an adult he works to protect others in his
sphere of influence. Clay’s past keeps
him closed off from relationships with women although he helps women in his
employ who are down on their luck because he knows what that is like. His desire to help others is the reason for
his nickname—Saint.
Samantha Jamison comes into
Kincaid’s, the bar that Clay owns, after running from her father. Her parents want her to marry a man she
doesn’t love to keep the business in the family. Samantha is from a wealthy family and doesn’t
need to work. The fact that she doesn't
need to work doesn't keep her from dreaming of being a pastry chef, a skill she
learned from the housekeeper. When
Samantha makes a stand against her family it surprises everyone that she has a
backbone and a will to succeed.
The two main
characters are a perfect fit. There is hot, burn up the
page, chemistry between them. Both
characters develop nicely as the story progresses. I love watching Samantha grow and take
control of her life and her future. She
is a strong, independent woman who sometimes surprises herself as she discovers
her independence. I also love Clay’s
struggles to believe that a woman can love him and, more importantly, that he
can love a woman in return—and like it, a novel concept for him.
The secondary characters, the
Kincaid brothers, and others are also lovable characters. Since I read book three, I know a little more
about them but filling in more of the blanks is nice. The Sexy series is an excellent series. Fast paced, great characters, alternating
points of view, and good story lines with a couple of layers all blend together
for a fun read.
One of my favorite aspects of the
story is the fact that an old love didn’t try to break the couple up. There is angst from the past, but the story
focuses on the internal development of the main characters more than outside
forces attacking to keep them apart. I
recommend this series and now I’m going to move on to Mason’s story.
I need to add one comment about
the audio that I purchased with the e-copy.
The audio is narrated by Sophie Eastlake. She does a good job for the most part. My only criticism is when she tries to change
her voice for the male parts. The first
couple times we get Clay’s point of view, I laughed a little. Ms. Eastlake reminds me of a child imitating
her father. After a bit I got used to her
“male” voice so it wasn’t as distracting.
I will listen to the audio again when I need a little escape. A good addition to the book.
