5 Stars for Bossman! I love, love, love this book. The story has everything I love in a romance novel, great characters, the perfect hero and heroine, a beautiful romance, hurdles to overcome, perfectly paced, and leaves me with the desire to read the book again.
The adventure begins with Reese Annesley on a painful first date. For her, it is the “worst date ever”. The only topic of conversation is his mother and to top it off, his sports jacket has a giant hole under the sleeve, and she’s just not into him. What does Reese do? She runs to the ladies’ room and sends out an SOS to her best friend, Jules. She needs a trumped up emergency to escape only her friend isn’t answering her phone.
Hiding in the corner of the hallway is Chase Parker. Overhearing her conversation, he calls her on her bitchy behavior and lets Reese know he thinks she is ungrateful for the effort her date put into getting reservations at the posh restaurant. Chase and Parker have some funny verbal sparring and then part ways, for a minute. Chase doesn’t do anything but bring his date to Reese’s table and creates a ruse about them being long, lost friends. It is funny and immediately opens my heart to this character.
It didn’t take more than the first page to fall in love with Chase Parker. He is fun, sexy, smart, and successful; all that and a big heart too. Reese is now one of my favorite female characters. She is successful, makes bad choices in men; she is a good friend and also has a big heart. There isn’t anything I don’t like about these characters.
The plot and Ms. Veeland’s development of the evolution of Reese and Chase relationship is spot on. Chase is a skirt chaser. He doesn’t invest time in relationships but something about Reese makes him look at her differently.
Reese has a past experience with an office romance and doesn’t want to go down that road again. She fights the attraction but it doesn’t put the reader off. The actions of the characters are natural and cautious. Reese is career driven and wants to continue to advance. It is understandable that she considers the boss as untouchable.
The writing is flawless from start to finish. The dialog between the main characters is a combination of funny, serious, sarcastic and appropriate for the people they are. I couldn’t put the book down. Everything about Bossman keeps the reader engaged and wanting more. I honestly didn’t want the book to end. Bossman is a 5-star recommendation from me.
