A Midsummer Night's Fling is the story of Nicola and Max, two aspiring actors looking for a stable future and fighting to ignore their past. After a tumultuous off and on relationship, Nicole and Max haven't seen each other in 5 years...but when Max appears on Nicola's door with an offer for a job at the West Coast's premiere Shakespeare company, Nicola knows she can't resist the offer. The catch? Nicola will be playing Titania to Max's Oberon in "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
As the rehearsals for the play begin, readers are treated to the surprising and sometimes shocking events that occur behind the scenes. Devious directors, jealous actors and secret romances are only the tip of the iceberg. Both Nicola and Max are determined not to give into temptation, but the sparks fly the minute they appear onstage together. As opening night draws closer, Max and Nicola must decide once and for all if they are doomed to repeat history apart or if they can forge a new, better future...together.
I am crazy about second chance
romances throw in the behind the scenes shenanigans of theater groups then add
Shakespeare’s plays what’s not to like about A Midsummer’s Night Fling.
A Midsummer’s Night Fling a standalone book in the Much Ado About Love series by
Eliza Walker. This is the story of
Nicola Charles and Max (Maxim) Fiesengerke.
These two started their romance as young, high school sweethearts. As their young on again, off again romance
went through many changes until it finally ended after college. They haven’t seen each other in five years.
During their separation Nicola
spends her time traveling around the country with a musical theater company. Max is working with a community theater group
striving to rebuild his reputation that suffered from too much partying after
the last break-up with Nicola. Max is a
new man but he has to convince Nicola he’s grown-up and responsible. Nicola is a new woman but is her heart to
bitter to listen to Max?
The two main characters have
chemistry from the first time we meet them.
Nicola is a good strong character but, like many theater people, she
isn’t confident in her skills and definitely questions her feelings for
Max. Max is the strong, alpha,
sexy-as-hell, male that women swoon over and fantasize about when they see him
on stage and screen.
I like the drama generated by
the performers trying to get the next big part at all costs and how it is
intertwined with the drama and angst between Max and Nicola.
“Wow you know your life is a mess when Shakespeare plots
are less complicated than the stuff you’re going through.”
My only negative is sometimes Shakespeare got in the way
of the story for me. I understand that
the community theater is preparing for Shakespearian production and the actors
reciting their lines make sense. It’s
just that sometimes the quotes took me out of the story and back to high school
English Literature class.
I like the other characters in the story and I can see
how they can each star in their own book.
They all have interesting personalities.
I can envision a captivating series.
I hope that we will get updates on Nicola and Max because I want to know
more about them.
A Midsummer’s Night Fling is a fun and entertaining story. It is fast paced and flows smoothly from
beginning to end. I enjoyed reading the
book and look forward to the next installment in the Much Ado About Love
series. Great debut Eliza Walker

Jack’s House Publishing is pleased to announce its first acquisition and the June 20 publication of A Midsummer Night’s Fling, by Eliza Walker! One of the key elements of our program at Jack’s House is that I want to get behind books I truly love, and I adored Eliza’s wonderful book. I love that she has created an amazing world inside a theater company that had me turning the pages to see what would happen next in the drama within the drama. And she managed to do something that none of my English teachers could ever do (despite trying relentlessly)—she made me love a story that features Shakespeare. As I told her when I offered to acquire the book, that—in and of itself—is a huge accomplishment. I absolutely loved Max and Nicola’s sexy, sweet romance, and I think you will, too!
