Ready for a sneak peek of DARE TO TAKE? Tyler Dare is being unleashed to the world on 5/3, but until then, I want to give you a little taste of Tyler Dare:
Tyler broke into a sweat. "Don't you have clothes?" he barked out."Would I be dressed in this if I did? My clothes are grimy from the hospital. Do you have a tee shirt or something I can borrow?" Her cheeks were flushed a pretty pink, and she had a death grip on the top of the towel, looking more vulnerable than sexy, and he cursed under his breath.Once again, he was being an ass. "Let me look in my duffle." He searched through his bag, using the time to get himself under control before turning to her with a tee shirt in hand."Here." He hoped the shirt was long enough so he'd stop thinking about what was underneath ... especially since he knew she wasn't wearing underwear.

I am a fan of the romance series
where each book features a family member and their struggle to find, or give in
to, their one true love. Dare
to Take by Carly Phillips is a book in such a series. Dare to Take is the last book in the
Dare to Love series and the first
book I’ve read not only in the series but by this author. It is a good book in fact, I like it enough
to go back and purchase the first two books.
I learn enough of the family, but not too much to take away from Tyler
and Ella, that I really want the back story for the other brothers and sisters
in the Dare family.
Tyler Dare is the baby of the
Dare family and a bit of a rebel in the family’s eyes. He turned away from the family business and
joined the army. He lives with the
notion that he failed his family and a good army friend something that often
make him a runner when things go wrong.
Now that Tyler is home,
permanently, he starts his own security firm, a natural fit for him. It gives him the opportunity to use skills
perfected in the military and job opportunities for some of his army buddies. For all his faults Tyler is loyal even if he
doesn’t see it. Instead he lives with
all the bad decisions he made and believes they make him a bad choice in the
romance department.
Ella Shaw is Avery Dare’s best
friend. She is a regular part of their
family since they met as children at a hospital donating bone marrow to
siblings. She is included in Dare family
activities and loves Tyler Dare. What
the family doesn’t know is that Ella and Tyler had a one night stand years ago
and it didn’t end well. They are civil,
sort of, to each other when necessary but they both have regrets.
Ella finds herself stranded on a
tropical island with a major hurricane heading her way and to make matters
worse she is mugged and transported to the emergency room. Avery pleads with Tyler to go help Ella and
make sure she gets home safe. The rendezvous
set the couple up to start dealing with the past and test the waters for a
future.
I like the way Ms. Phillips
develops these characters with many layers.
She puts them in interesting situations that require the characters to address
their personal issues and move forward as a couple. I didn’t have any problem reading the book
out of order. It works as a standalone
novel. WARNING: If you haven’t read the other books in the
series, you will get enough of a taste of the other Dare siblings (and a cousin in the NY Dare series) that you will need to read their stories too—at least I do.
There are some predictable moments
but the overall storyline is quite enjoyable and holds the reader’s
interest. Ms. Phillips has a smooth
writing style that allows the reader to feel the characters’ hurt, fear of
rejection, fear of not being enough, and the joy and love both characters have
to offer. I recommend Dare
to Take if you want a good romance.
