Luke’s Absolution is book 3 in The Colloway Brothers series and
features Luke Calloway’s story. It is
part of a series but it can be read as a standalone novel.
I really like this story.
Luke Colloway is a troubled soul who got messed up with the bad crowd in
high school because of events at home when he was in high school. He is a hot, tatted, alpha male. He is a mystery. He has secrets that weigh heavily on his
conscience. He also has a connection
with Gray’s (his twin) wife Livie. Luke
is a runner. When things become
complicated in his life he runs…inside himself…to the bottle…just gone.
Adeline Catherine Monroe (Addy) is the woman who Luke
wants. She brings light in his
life. “You’re my color” Luke tells her. Addy makes bad decisions when it comes to
men. She falls in love with the wrong
ones all the time. Also, she doesn’t want
to compete with her best friend Livie for Luke’s affection. She doesn’t know what the story is with Luke
and Livie but she knows he looks at her lovingly. Besides Luke is best friends
with her brother Eric. Addy doesn’t want
to deal with her brother or cause a rift between the two friends.
The story is well written.
It is a smooth, easy read that holds the reader’s attention from the
start. I love both of the main
characters. Luke makes me laugh, cry,
and sigh. He is a protector and makes a
lot of choices to protect his family and the people he loves. Addy is strong but cautious. She knows enough hurt from her previous bad
men decisions and besides she has nice guy asking her out. For her it might be safer to go with nice
instead of a man like Luke and his baggage.
The way K.L. Kreig develops these characters makes them jump off the
page into the living room. It is very
easy for the reader to connect with them and their struggles and cheer them on.
As mentioned, Luke’s Absolution can be read as a
standalone novel and by the end of the book you will know a lot about Luke’s
past. It is a little frustrating,
however, not knowing some things from the previous books especially Livie’s
history. I did scream at the book a
couple times “just tell her for God’s sake”.
If I had read Forsaking Gray I would know the
backstory. We do find out by the end but
I’m sure it is less frustration to know going in what is revealed in the
previous books. I like Luke and his
family enough to purchase the two previous books, Forsaking Gray and Undeniably
Asher. The next and final book
in the series is Destination Connelly which is due out this summer. I highly recommend this book.
