*** REVIEW *** THE BALLER by Vi Keeland

Meet Brody Easton in THE BALLER!
A standalone Contemporary Romance novel by
New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author Vi Keeland

The first time I met Brody Easton was in the men’s locker room.
It was my first interview as a professional sportscaster.
The famed quarterback decided to bare all.
And by all, I don’t mean he told me any of his secrets.
No. The arrogant ass decided to drop his towel, just as I asked the first question. On camera.
The Super Bowl MVP quickly adopted a new hobby—screwing with me.
When I pushed back, he shifted from wanting to screw with me, to wanting to screw me.
But I don’t date players.
And it’s not because I’m one of the few women working in the world of professional football.
I’d date an athlete.
It’s the other kind of player I don’t date.
You know the type. Good looking, strong, cocky, always looking to get laid.

Brody Easton was the ultimate player.
Every woman wanted to be the one to change him.
But the truth was, all he needed was a girl worth changing for.
Turned out, I was that girl.
Simple right?
Let’s face it. It never is.
There’s a story between once upon a time and happily ever after
And this one is ours.

I always appreciate reading anything by Vi Keeland.  She takes me on a journey that I truly enjoy with characters that who touch my heart.

My thought as I’m reading The Baller:   I am positive I’m traveling down a certain path with both characters dealing with a devastating loss of love early in life.  Their loss makes it difficult for them to wrap their hearts around a new love.  Then without warning…WHAM!  I’m hit about forty percent in with a completely unexpected twist that takes me down a path that I didn’t expect at all.  Why are you doing this to me Ms. Keeland? My heart beat picks up.  I don’t think I can handle it.  Keep reading.  It is going to be worth it.  I hope.

The Storyline is romantic, sweet, tough relationship issues, and totally captivating.  The relationship between Delilah and Brody feels so real as they travel the road from disgust, lust then to love.  The story is written primarily from Delilah’s and Brody’s point of view.  There are a couple chapters from others that are important insight into various situations.

The characters are perfect.  Good character development always rates high in my need column when reading a book.  Ms. Keeland does an excellent job developing her characters.  Great support characters that add levity, a little anxiety, and support the storyline.

Brody Easton is a star quarterback for the Steel a New York football team.  (I’m not sure why the fictitious name when other NFL teams are mentioned.)  In the beginning he comes off as a misogynistic, cocky bastard but once we get to know him we see his heart.

He goes out of his way to bring joy to his fans and young kids especially those who don’t have a lot materially.  He helps others anonymously and without the media present.  He is sexy as hell and an all-around great guy.

Delilah Maddox is the daughter of a famous quarterback.  She knows what the life is for the family of a professional football player but she has an advantage of being a sports journalist.  She can rattle off game/player statistics better than her male counterparts.  She works hard and secures a place as an on screen reporter in a male dominated industry.  She is a good strong female character that I love.  Don’t get me wrong she has doubts and personal issues to work through but she does it in a mature manner.

Indie is Delilah’s friend and co-worker.  She is a free spirit and adds levity often when it is really needed.  I love this character.  She is a friend that everyone needs.

Charles Ulysses Macy (nickname Mr. CUM) is Delilah’s boss.  He is a sleaze but the scenes with Indie are priceless.  Indie manages to get into a provocative position when he is around and his body obviously reacts.  Such fun!

What an enjoyable reading adventure The Baller is!  I love football and football players so I am right there with Delilah and Brody.  The writing is good, the characters are spot on, and the twist makes this more than just another sports romance.  From the very start I am glued to the story and didn’t want it to end.  Love the epilogue.  There is nothing like reading a book and seeing the events clearly play out in your head.  If you like romance, good alpha, athletic male heroes, strong, loving heroines you must read this book.

Vi Keeland is a native New Yorker with three children that occupy most of her free time, which she complains about often, but wouldn't change for the world. She is a bookworm and has been known to read her kindle at stop lights, while styling her hair, cleaning, walking, during sporting events, and frequently while pretending to work. She is a boring attorney by day, and an exciting New York Times & USA Today Best Selling smut author by night!
