"CD Reiss doesn't just publish books. She unleashes them." -- Sinfully Sexy Book Reviews
Everything about Fiona is forbidden.
She’s a party girl with dark desires.
She’s beautiful, irresponsible, irresistible.
She’s my patient.
I’m her therapist.
I’m past past wanting her. Past possessing her. Past bedding her or protecting her.
I’m willing to be self-destructive, negligent, brave, audacious, and stronger than I ever believed possible.
She’s blunt force trauma to the heart.
And she calls another man Master.

Holy mackerel! This
book had me tied in knots (figuratively speaking) one minute, worried and
anxious another, and then full of joy by the end. I loved it.
I loved every page that I read. I
don’t have any issues with the characters, the events, or (my biggest fear
about Ms. Reiss’ books because I always want something a little different) the
ending.
I’m not a fan of series and didn’t purchase the first two
books of the Song of Perdition series when they were released. I put them on my wish list waiting for
Break. What a deal to get them all
together with one purchase in one book.
Totally unexpected and I’m thoroughly grateful nonetheless.
Starting with the characters--I can’t say enough regarding
how perfectly these characters are developed.
The main characters (Fiona, Deacon, Elliot) are so beautifully complex
and multidimensional that I feel like I know them all intimately and love them
with all my heart. (Not as much as
Jonathan and Monica but a real close second that’s for sure.)
Fiona is a character study in the poor little rich girl who
has so much to offer but doesn’t know it.
She sells herself short and takes so many wrong paths that it is a
wonder she makes it to adulthood. With
all her issues she is still so loveable.
There are times when I want to put my arms around her and give her a big
hug.
Deacon the only comment I can make about him is what a hot
mystery. He is so intriguing that he could
be a book on his own. There is a lot of
suspense around this character with the way he disappears for his business and
then comes back. We know a little about
his life but there is so much unknown. His
love of Fiona is on the surface and he fights for her in a way that is
understandable yet sad at the same time.
Elliott, the doctor/counselor has the gift to see not only
in her mind (through therapy) but in her soul.
I love their relationship and how it grows regardless of how hard
Elliott tries to fight it. Elliott is so
conservative in his thoughts and lifestyle prior to meeting Fiona. At the same time he is so conflicted in that
he knows his choices haven’t always been the best ones for him.
Margie, the eldest Drazen, continues to be a very
interesting character. We learn more
about her start as a lawyer. I can’t
wait until she is the main character.
This woman has a lot of fight in her especially when you mess with her
family.
Also included is a few small teasers of what is happening in
the other Drazen’s lives. I like the
young Jonathan and his comments about Theresa and Margie. I also like seeing this family as the story
progresses.
The plot is tightly woven with just the right amount of
action to keep the reader’s attention until the end. The subplots were used effectively to get us
to the heart of not only Fiona but both Elliott and Deacon. While these two are the biggest influence on
Fiona’s development Karen, a friend and a fellow resident of the rehabilitation
facility is used to effectively show how caring and sympathetic Fiona truly
is.
I am completely satisfied with the ending and the epilogue
makes my heart flutter with joy. Fiona’s
story is one of those roller coaster rides that you don’t want to end. I want
to say the pace of the book is fast but it is really just right to tell the
story completely. Both Deacon and
Elliott love Fiona and they both fit with her but in different ways. The story’s resolution is beautiful and flawless. I can’t say anymore because it will give too
much away. Therefore, I highly recommend
everyone read this book. It is worth
your time. Thanks Christine!
