Jaeger Dalton wants the land that was promised to him.
Phoenix Ward isn’t about to let anyone take Freedom Run away from her.
He’ll protect what’s his.
She’ll protect what’s hers.
Jaeger is an arrogant ass, but he wants nothing more than Phoenix.
Phoenix is stubborn and headstrong, and she wants Jaeger out of her life.
Her father lost the family farm to gambling debts, but Jaeger isn’t the only one who has a claim to the property.
Sometimes it’s best to let things go.
But sometimes it’s better to fight until the very end.
“That went well,” he says and lets his own laughter rip from his lips. “Heard her shrieking like a banshee out in the yard.”
“She wants to go home.” I rub my hands over my eyes and try to relax, but knowing she’s pissed isn’t great for me.”
“Women are different,” Sarge says with a shrug.
“Tell me about it.”
“Sometimes it’s best to shut the fuck up and not fight ‘em.” Sarge sits in the chair that Nix was sitting in.
“You pussy-whipped?” I ask as I feel my eyebrows draw together in question.
“Hmmm.” He reverts back to normal Sarge. “Women wanna be told what to do, but you need to make it look like it’s their idea.”
“That’s fucked. She should just do what I say and be happy with it.”
Sarge shakes his head. “She’s right, you’re a dick.”
Possibly it's the fact that there are 26 letters in the English alphabet, and they can create something so beautiful or so empowering that they're able to change our lives.
How important is it that we break suit and stretch our minds?
I like to think of myself as 'unique'. My stories aren't for everyone, and sometimes I may push what you believe to be 'normal'.
Normal is subjective.
I prefer to be known as a person who's never been 'bound by custom' but is 'unique by choice'.
I hope you do read and enjoy my stories.
Until next time

Normally I’m not a fan of motorcycle club books, however
this one touched me and I want more.
Jaeger is the badass alpha male hero. I fought it a little but I have to admit I
really like Jaeger, there is something about his completely inappropriate
attitude towards women from when I first meet him that he is hiding a softness
somewhere he just needs the right person to bring it out.
It isn’t a surprise that Jaeger goes out of his way to
protect his heart. His childhood is a
rough road for anyone to travel and he adjusts by bringing out his badness. Jaeger finds he can a star in the MMA underground
world and then he works his way up to president of a motorcycle club.
Jaeger saw a glimpse of Phoenix years ago from the ring. She lives in his fantasy mind for years then
one day she shows when Jaeger stops at her farm to collect a debt from her
father. Before long Jaeger wants to
protect her and take Phoenix to his bed.
Unfortunately Phoenix (Nix) doesn’t have the same desire—at least not
that she will admit to him.
I don't do romance, Nix. I don't do pretty and
soft. I'll tell you what I want, how I want it and although you may not like
how I say it, it'll always be the truth.
Phoenix a.k.a. Dillion is a great character. I like her a lot. She is a fighter with a mouth that gets her
in trouble. My favorite books have strong
female characters and Phoenix hits the mark.
She realizes too late that her father betrays her by gambling away the
family farm. As if that isn’t bad enough
the farm owners are various criminal types but she doesn’t give up regardless
of how bad it looks.
“Why
do I want this? Why am I so turned on
when he’s so rough with me?”
The scenes with Jaeger and Nix are great their verbal sparring is sometimes
funny and sometimes touching and sexy. There
are many tough scenes too but they are appropriate to the story.
All the characters are developed in a realistic, believable way and I
have to take a minute to mention the support characters. They add interesting dimension to the
story. These characters are very
entertaining in their own way. There is
potential to make some of these characters the stars of their own books as I
can see where there is more to tell. If
that happens I will definitely read them.
Margaret McHeyzer is a new author for me. There is something for everyone—anxiety,
humor, angst and joy. I enjoy Ms. McHeyzer’s
writing style. The story is fast paced
and flows smoothly from scene to scene. It
moves from Jaeger to Phoenix’s point view, one of my favorite story telling techniques,
which allows the reader to get in the heads of both main characters.
As far as I know this is a standalone novel with the potential of more
stories ahead. I recommend Grit
to MC lovers and those on the fence for this storyline. It is a good read!
