From
New York Times
Bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, comes a sexy new standalone novel.
He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska.
A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive.
When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours.
My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense.
I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back.
I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

What a great
book. I like everything about this
story. There is something here for
everyone. I laughed, I sighed, I cried,
I worried, and I fell in love.
Cocky Bastard is one
of those books that you can’t put down once you start reading. Aubrey is leaving her old life and on her way
across country to a new life and runs into Chance. A cocky Australian who offers to change her
tire for a ride.
Their travels are an
adventure and the more they get to know each other the more the sparks
fly. The thing is the whole time they
are together you know that Chance is holding back. Aubrey knows it too but she keeps putting her
fear aside because she knows he is falling for her too.
The first half of the
book is written in Aubrey’s point of view.
It is funny and filled with the sparks of new like that could be more. I love how she is always hearing some sexual
innuendo in their conversation.
“So, we'll get breakfast out?" I stupidly
asked.
"Yes, breakfast. What else would I be eating out?"
UH.
Choking over my words, I said, "No. Breakfast is good. I'm hungry. You?"
"Starving." The look in his eyes implied that he wasn't necessarily referring to food.
I was starving, too.

These
scenes are scattered through the first half of the book. There is another scene where Aubrey thinks
she hit a goat but it turns out the animal has a syndrome that causes it to
faint. To protect the goat Aubrey
decides to take it with them on their journey.
This addition adds more levity and fun to their journey.
After
a stop in Las Vegas, the secrets starts to come to life and the tone of the
story changes. I have to admit that the
secret isn’t what I thought and took me completely by surprise. Part One ended with me crying and angry with
Chance. I didn’t know how he was going
to redeem himself but I wanted him to come clean.
In
Part Two we see life from Chance’s point of view. Chance survived a life changing event and
starts out to make a new life for himself.
He knows he has to make things right with Aubrey and he knows it isn’t
going to be an easy job. I found that I
forgave Chance easily but Aubrey couldn’t get past the hurt.
I
honestly believe that you can’t read this book and not like it. I’m a big fan of second chance romances and
this one is a big second chance. I
love, love, love this book. Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward weave a very touching and realistic story. Their writing styles complement each other perfectly. I am ready for more from these two.
