Paranormal Romance

Synopsis

Dylan, Nico, and Olivier are working on a compromise that allows them to live within the city together. There are power struggles going on everywhere and Dylan is learning that it’s becoming a liability that she is still mortal. However, she’s not ready to let go of her mortality. Dylan and Nico are growing stronger as a power couple and that is causing some feelings of jealousy from a few different people within their lives. Dylan is learning about being “a sensitive” and trying to forge a new home within Paris. Will she be able to survive as a mortal? Can Nico and Olivier come up with a compromise that allows them to work together?

I’m not a big paranormal fan so I usually go into these books with low expectations.  I’m happy to say The Immortal Compromise far exceeded my expectations.   I really enjoyed this book.  I like visiting the world that Shannon Bell has created for her characters.  It is a realistic fantasy world that is easy to envision and mentally wander through with the characters.

The coupling of Dylan, a mortal, and Nico the vampire is perfect.   They work well together and, while there is an underlying feeling of mistrust (mostly in the beginning) when push comes to shove Nico’s love for Dylan guides his decisions and his heart.  He will fight anyone to protect her and keep her out of danger.

There is an interesting scene with Nico, Dylan, and Olivier.  At first I thought Nico was setting up a test of Dylan but it was a way to close a chapter on the Dylan/Olivier story that started in the previous book.   I like how Nico takes charge of Dylan’s lust for Olivier and Olivier’s for Dylan.  It completely surprised me—in a good way.

The story is fast paced and full of action.  There isn’t any time to sit back and rest before the next danger or unexpected event takes place.  There are power struggles within the Paris community as well as distrusting leaders from other groups in Europe.  There are bouts of jealousy that are not easy for the young couple as well as friends lost and new friends found.

I can honestly say this story has something for everyone, love and romance, intrigue and scheming, and friendship and betrayal.  It is a very exciting read for any paranormal lover but it will also appeal to anyone who loves a good story.  I recommend it.

The Immortal Compromise is the third book in The Mortal One series.
