I've loved once. I gave everything that I had to that
love. Blindly believing that nothing could ever take that feeling away from me.
Away from us. And when my little world of happiness was ripped from my fingers,
I felt a loss that still haunts me to this day.
Now I use that lingering grief as a shield to keep my
heart from loving again. It's that fear that keeps me from letting anyone,
except my daughter, get close enough to make it hurt. To make my heart bleed
when I inevitably lose again.
Until the day I met Liam Beckett and everything I thought
I had protected myself from was shoved back in my face.
He's on a mission to prove to me that a love worth having
is a love worth fighting for.
His mouth leaves mine and with his hand still on my leg,
he demands, “Dig your heels in deep, baby.”
I give
him what he wants, but not because he told me to. I give him what he wants because when his
hand leaves my leg and pushes into the mattress, bringing his body up he goes
even deeper into my body and those heels push hard.
Just as
he demanded earlier, my hands go to his shoulders on my own accord and as he
takes my body hard, my nails dig in with my heels still pushing hard against
the small of his back. Our eyes never
leave each other’s probing gaze. Never
once do I take my eyes away from his, so full of lust that I know there isn’t
an ounce of control left in his body.
He drops
his head and I lift up to meet him in a kiss so sweet it doesn’t match the
powerful way that he’s taking my body. A
kiss that gives me more than words ever could at this moment. His hips slow and as his tongue rolls against
mine, his hips start to take me in slow, deep rolls. He doesn’t pull back, just rocks his hips
against mine.
I push up
and cry out when he slips even deeper.
His lips
come from mine and his hooded eyes open a sliver. “Feels like heaven,” he says softly. “Everything, darlin’. Feels like everything.”
Bleeding Love is book 2 in
the Hope Town series. The Hope Town
series focus is the children of the original Corps Security series.
Bleeding Love is an
entertaining and captivating love story that I couldn’t put down. Liam Beckett falls for Megan, the widow of a
Marine who served in Cohen’s squad. Megan
is introduced in book 1 of the series. When
we meet Megan she is in pain over her loss.
In Bleeding Love Megan is still suffering three years after Jack’s death
compounded by the guilt she feels.
Jack’s decision to join the Marines is a change he made to be with Megan
and get her out of her dreadful home life.
The main characters, Liam and Megan, are so loveable. Harper’s development of these characters is
spot on. These two are special and very
relatable. Liam is definitely his
parents’ son. He has all the good
qualities we see in Beck and Dee. He is
a little impatient at times and that’s okay.
He is the product of a loving home and knows how to love in return.
By the time I was twenty percent into Bleeding Love Liam jumps to the top five of my book boyfriend
list. He is tenacious and works hard to
get what/who he wants. He is a real romantic and captures my heart lock, stock
and barrel.
“I’m counting, Megan, because I want you more than I’ve wanted anything
in my life and that frustrates the shit out of me because you either can’t or
won’t see it. I need you to see it, baby.”
Megan is also strong character but she is going through a hard time
dealing with her guilt so she if slightly vulnerable and unsure. It feels like her guilt is so over powering
that she questions if she deserves love and happiness. Megan is a single mom with a five year old
daughter, Molly. Megan is a good mom and
loves her daughter completely. Her parents
are addicts of drugs and alcohol and Megan didn’t know love except from her
best friend and husband Jack. However,
Megan struggles because as much as she loves Jack she never felt what she feels
for Liam. Her feelings for Liam are
confusing and makes her feel disloyal.
“It feels wrong, after everything that Jack had done for me, to feel
this way for Liam. It shouldn’t feel like guilt, but it does. I’m still here
when Jack is gone. I’m still breathing when he gave his life for me.”
The story is told from Megan’s point of view primarily but ten chapters
are from Liam’s point of view. I love
this technique. It feels like Megan’s
story and gives the reader a lot of insight into Megan’s past and present. The reader really gets to know and understand
what is going on in her head. Liam’s
chapters lets the reader see how Liam grows and changes over the years since
his birth in Beck. We also really feel
his heart and love.
It is often difficult to read books in a series and not compare the
book to the previous books written. For
me each book in the original Corps Security series was unique and
refreshing. I love each and every
character and re-read them often. I like
the first book, Unexpected Fate, in the Hope Town series but it didn’t grab my
heart the way Harper’s previous books did. I’m not sure why, I like the story
but something was missing. Bleeding Love
more than meets my Harper Sloan expectations.
This puts her back on top of my list with a fresh look at love and
romance.
Experiencing Liam wooing Megan is beautiful. He is so full of love and willing to share
his love completely which makes my heart sputter. He is romantic with a capital R. His plan is to break Megan out of her cocoon
and just have her feel the good things in life.
The way he rolls out his plan is lovely and charming. Truly I can feel his love for Megan as I read
Ms. Sloan’s words.
“I know you, Megan.
You’ve been around this group for over a year now. A year of you being in a fog
while everyone around you was living. You’ve forgotten what it’s like to live
and I’m going to remind you. And while I’m reminding you, all you have to do is
feel. Then you’ll get it.”
I can’t end this review without mentioning Molly. What a great kid she is! There is no way you can read this book
without falling in love with her. She
burrows into the hearts of the other characters in the story as well as the
reader. There is a scene with Axel that
is so cute and loving that my heart burst with joy. I want more.
In addition to Liam and Megan the story gives an update on Dani and
Cohen and a glimpse into where Axel and Izzy and Beck and Dee are today.
Ms. Sloan won’t take us to Hope Town without a fun visit with Sway and
he was here in all his glitter too. He
is still one of my favorite ancillary characters in her books.
I love, love, love this book and I’m still swooning over Liam. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a
good romance. In fact, it is my opinion
that this is the best Harper Sloan book to date and I never thought she could
top the Corps Security team. You will
love Liam (Lee) as much, if not more than his father, Beck.

Harper lives
in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City.
She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean',
much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with
books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad
reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero--the super
alpha kind!
Harper
started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night;
and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't
take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to
have their story told.
