The Traveling Woman
concludes the journey of The Traveling Duet. One month has passed since the
events in the last chapter of The Traveling Man and Aimee is barely surviving without the man
she loves with all her heart and soul at her side. She has tried to move on,
but no one can possibly compare to Kes.
But then, Destiny plays the ace up her sleeve.
Has your heart ever whispered “Yesss!!” while you were reading?
Mine did, along with many other feelings. The first part of the book is a lover
of romantic tales's dream come true. Aimee and Kes both know now where they
went wrong in managing their insecurities and are ready and willing to build
their relationship on stronger grounds. I used to think I couldn't love Aimee
more and here I was, happy beyond myself, for her. For her sun, Kes, was shining again and she could show him what
a strong girl she was now, and a beautiful soul too. Aimee has grown into a
wonderful young woman indeed, one who,
despite her upbringing, is able to overlook cultural differences and social
bias to find her HEA.
The more the story unfolded, the more I was able to see how much
complementary Kes and Aimee's characters are: she craves magic in her life and
he wants stability; more importanty, while she has already proved she can live
in a traveling carnival, he has a hard time to spend a few weeks outside its
confined space. In Aimee's world, Kes feels he is out of place and not always
up to the task. It is the old tradition of the carnival as a “Freaks' Show”
that prevents Kes from seeking the professional help he needs. Carnie people,
from Dono to the Hawkins Daredevils, have always protected Kes from the outside
world, making him a successful performer and helping him to hide his
'shortcomings' (which are only deriving from his being dyslexic; but they all
live in a 'magical' world and can't put a name on those, let alone think there
might be a cure for them) . It is only natural, then, for Aimee to leave her
world of sensible choices behind and begin a new life with Kes, the only man
for her. She knows where her place is and when asked if she knows what she is
doing, she says:
but
I know I can do it.”
which strikes a
sharp contrast to her realization that Kes:
“....
couldn't find a place in my world. And I don't think
it
would have mattered how long he'd been there.
He
wouldn't have been happy.
He
wouldn't have been himself.”
As it always
happens in a relationship, “Someone's gotta give.” and that does not
necessarily have to be the weaker link.
Aimee's
self-confidence notwithstanding, cultural differences are bound to come up and
they do when Kes and Aimee have their first real fight: carnie boy vs rube girl
was amazing to witness, Luckily, they
always find a way to make up, and Aimee's ability in translating Kes's
affectionate gestures into words truly makes her a woman traveling back and
forth two different worlds.
All is well in
Arcata, CA, and looking any day better. Until it is not. Their love is put to
the test again and Aimee has a really difficut decision to make, and only hope
for the best. Things get rough between them; they are under a considerable
stress and need financial help on top of that. When it comes to Kes, Aimee is a
force to reckon with: nothing stops her from entering yet another world, that
of high-profile parties and political big shots, in order to get Kes all the
support he needs. Her earnestness and no-nonsense-attitude are just admirable,
and surely must earn her the respect of the least likely of her fans. In this
dire moment in his life, Kes's psychological portait is spotless. Through well-crafted dialogues, and Aimee's help,
Kes's pain to not be any longeer the man he wanted to be for his Aimee is there
for anyone to see. She won't listen to any of that though, and is willing to do
the unthinkable to have 'her Kes' back. Because in her mnd, Kes is her family
and Arcata Bay is where she comes home to now.
Haltingly but steadily, their life finds a new rhythm, a music of its
own made of sweet memories of old times and present hardships, of old
wrondoings being finally acknowledged and new dreams to be fufilled,
Kes and Aimee
find their HEA in a cabin near the ocean, with not too much money to count on
but plenty of good friends, amazing sex, and a love story worth being
told....and a little monkey.
If that is not
magic, I don't know what it is.

The Traveling Man (The Traveling Duet, #1)
I was ordinary. Nice. He was extraordinary. And he wasn’t always nice.
Moody and difficult, brilliant and beautiful, Kes scared me and he protected me. He could be incredibly hurtful and incredibly thoughtful. He wasn’t perfect, but he was perfect for me. He challenged me, he took me out of my safe little box and showed me the world could be magnificent. He was everything I wasn’t.
Aimee Anderson is ten when the traveling carnival first comes to her nice little town. She doesn’t expect her world to change so completely. But meeting Kestrel Donohue puts her life on a different path.
Even though she only sees him for the two weeks of the year when he passes through her home town, his friendship is the most important of her life. As a child’s friendship grows to adult love, the choices become harder, and both Kes and Aimee realize that two weeks a year will never be enough.
About the Author
I lived in London for over 10 years and have a love affair with New York. It's only since I have moved to the countryside, that the words have really begun to flow.
I live in a small village by the ocean and walk my little dog, Pip, every day. It’s on those beachside walks that I have all my best ideas.
Writing has become a way of life – and one that I love to share.
