From the New York Times bestselling author of Come to Me Quietly comes a scorching new adult romance in the Closer to You series.
A second chance at life…
A second chance at love…
Jared Holt never thought he deserved either—until he found both in the arms of Aly Moore. Aly has loved Jared for as long as she can remember, and she’s more than ready for the future they’re making together. But Jared can’t help remembering his own family. And he’ll never forgive himself for what happened to them. How can he allow himself the very happiness he once destroyed? To live a life worthy of Aly, Jared knows he has to stop running and finally put his past to rest. But when he decides to face his demons head on, he encounters more than he bargained for: a dangerous mix of jealousy, lies, and dishonest intentions. When those intentions threaten Aly, Jared loses all control, giving into the rage that earned him his bad boy reputation years before. And he’ll fight to protect her no matter what it costs…even if he destroys himself in the process.

WARNING: This review contains spoilers for Book One: Come to Me Quietly
I'm both happy and devastated that our journey with Jared and Aly is over. The way that AL Jackson made me feel about them makes me feel like I've lost my friends. I know that they will be back, in supporting roles later, but I am so attached to their story I don't ever want it to end.
Come to Me Softly is a seamless continuation of Come to Me Quietly. There is no time lapse or series of events that happen between the books that we only know about because of flashbacks. We get to see the struggle that happens for Aly and Jared from the exactly where we left off in CTMQ.
While CTMS is very much the story of Jared and Aly and their journey together, it is definitely Jared's book. We learn so much about him and what exactly he is going through. There were times that I was pissed at him, his self hatred was just so great, I couldn't understand it, and times that I cried for him, both tears of pain and tears of joy. Jared learns a lot about himself in this book, he also learns a lot about the type of love that Aly has for him. It is really a beautiful thing to watch.
Aly, while still very much a main character takes a little bit of a backseat in this book. I think that she had to. Aly is pretty confident in who she is and what she wants. Her main goal in CTMS was to get Jared to a place where he could be at peace and she does a beautiful job of supporting and guiding that journey.
I loved watching the growth and connections that the characters made in this book. I was happy to see little glimpses of Christopher and how he may be beginning to change himself. I've got to say that hands down, my favorite part of this book is seeing the depth of the love Jared had for both Aly and his baby. I'm quite sure that if not for both of them he would not have been able to find his way to forgiving himself.
I am eagerly anticipating book three, Christopher's story.
