Beautiful Rose by Missy Johnson ~ Blog Tour & Sarah's Review

Jack Falcon is a new man. Three years after he left his life behind in London, Jack finally feels settled. He’s surrounded with everything that is important to him; a great relationship with his brother, Alex, a bar he is about to re-open, and most importantly, he has control of his life and his dreams. He knows he can’t undo the wrongs of his past, but he sure as hell can determine his future. He has worked hard to move forward and nothing is going to undo that.

Until he meets Rose.

Rose Wilson has never felt normal. Since she was a child, Rose has felt nothing but the overwhelming desire to end her life and she has no idea why. We live to die, so what’s the point in living? Rose has pushed the limits in the past, and pushed people away. She can’t figure out why Jack and Alex are so insistent on helping her. Twelve years of therapy has failed to help her, so why should they be any different?
Jack sees just how beautiful and important Rose is, but convincing her of that means putting his heart on the line, something he isn’t sure he can do. He can’t deny his feeling for Rose, but that doesn’t mean he has to act on them. And Jack isn’t the only one developing feelings for Rose.

Before Rose, Jack vowed he would never let himself fall in love again.

Before Rose, he had control.

But sometimes, it’s losing control that makes you really see what’s really important in your life.

**WARNING: IF YOU HAVE NOT READ 'SEDUCE' THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS ~ READ IT FIRST!!**

I was completely left reeling when I finished reading Seduce.  I was floored by Belle's death.  After Jack was just starting to realize that he was deserving of love he lost the only woman who he'd every been in love with.  So devastating as a reader.  I can not imagine how I would have felt if I had to wait to read Beautiful Rose.

While the prologue is only a few months after the end of Seduce, the rest of the book picks up three years later.  Jack is getting established in the US, he is just about to open the bar he bought and remodelled and is dating quite possibly one of the worst people on the the planet.  He is still broken from the loss of Belle, but who wouldn't be?

Rose was quote a mess in her own right.  More so even.  The first time that she sees Jack she is actually in a psychiatric facility.  We learn her story piece by piece and it is no wonder that she is such a disaster.  I knew VERY little about her parents and I think that they really deserve an award for horrific parenting.  They definitely did nothing to help with their daughter's fragile mental state.  I was quite happy that she was able to meet up with Jack and his friends so that she could have some stability and love in her life.

When he first meets Rose it felt a lot like when he had first met Belle, I wasn't a huge fan.  However things progressed quite differently for them.  I was really mad at both of them, several times, for pushing one another away all of the time!  They were both so inside of their heads and their problems though, that it made perfect sense.  I was happy that they both were able to work on their respective issues, in ways that worked for them, and get their heads on straight before pursuing a relationship.  When Jack's ex starts meddling (it's really far worse than just meddling) I wasn't sure that things were ever going to work out for them.  I couldn't believe the shit she exposed or the acts she committed.  I was actually quite floored, I never saw it coming.

Beautiful Rose is not a cliffhanger, thank God!  But the story of Jack, Rose, and the crew will continue.  I am looking forward to book #2, from Jack's brother Alex' POV, due out early next year!

  1. Great review! This sounds like a pretty good read and one where the characters really grow on you. I also like it when a sequel takes on a new POV I find you can get to know the characters through a different eye and know them better! Glad you liked it! :)
