Jamie Grey grew up tossed around between foster homes. At an early age he shut the world out, deciding he wouldn’t care. Whatever life had to throw at him, he would look the other way. Now his senior year is about to start and he’s been forced into yet another new home. This will be the last time, he assures himself. When an unexpected curveball comes his way in the form of a certain stubborn seventeen year old girl, Jamie soon finds out that life doesn’t always work out the way you plan it.
Beckett Chase has been entitled her entire life. Living in the plush landscape of Palm Beach, Florida, she’s never wanted for anything. She’s always taken what and who she wants with no remorse. When she sets her sights on Jamie Grey and she’s met with rejection, her descent from the top begins.
With a twist of events causing Jamie and Beckett’s worlds to collide, will they be able to put aside their differences or will fate intervene offering an entirely different option?
Beckett Chase thinks that she is the ruler of the school. She has hew 'friends' and everyone else either wants to be her or be with her. She thinks that she has it made. Then she moves in on someone that one of her friends like. After some explaining they are able to put it all behind them. Until Jamie Grey comes into the picture.
Jamie has not had an easy life. After losing the one chance he's ever had at having a real family, he's bounced from one bad foster home to another. His last chance, before ending up in a group home, lands him at Beckett Chase's house. Things are tense between them; she hates him because he's intruding on her territory, he can't stand her because she's a real bitch.
One of Beckett's friends is interested in Jamie, and that is (kind of) fine with her. However, when he saves her at a party one night everyone assumes that more happened between them than did. Beckett quickly learns that she wasn't as powerful as she once thought and her descent to the bottom is swift. When everything that has been happening behind the scenes starts coming to light Beckett can't believe what has happened to her without her knowledge.
I greatly enjoyed this story. The characters were easy to get to know and interesting. The story line was great. I think that the self realization that Beckett goes through was really nice. That she was able to, seemingly, completely do away with the mask that she had been wearing in her quest for dominance was great.
I would have liked some more depth from the characters. At times I felt that they were a little flat. And the end moved so quickly it was over before I was completely at peace with everything that had happened.
All in all, this was really a great story. There is not anything that I would say would keep this form being okay for younger readers. (The high school set, nothing younger than that though!) It was a good story about surviving the trials of the high school social hierarchy. This was a solid 3.5 stars from me.
