SYNOPSIS

Danny and Liv are back...

Danny loves Liv. He knows he loves her more than she loves him because she ran without a word when she saw their future mapped out before her. He knows he will never love anyone like he loved her and this time he doesn’t think he can move on.

Liv loves Danny. She knows she loves him more than he loves her because he broke her heart in the worst possible way, right when things were falling into place. She knows she will never love anyone like she loves him and this time she doesn’t think she can move on.

They needed a second chance because they just weren’t ready for their first, but when events changed everything between them, they discovered they were just human after all. Now Liv and Danny have to find a way to survive being hurt by each other. 

They doubted, they underestimated and they did believe the worst, but only because they were too young the first time and too vulnerable the second time. But now they have changed and if they are not the same, surely things can only turn out differently?

Still Human is book two in Kerry Heaven's Just Human series. If you have not read book one, Just Human, scroll past this review, to the purchase links for JH, and go buy it, NOW!! It's on sale for 99 pennies right now and this review will contain spoilers for it!!

I HATED how Just Human ended, it was just a huge cliffhanger and I was actually a bit pissed off. I needed to know that Liv and Danny were going to be okay. I was devastated that she had left without talking to him and that he didn't follow her to find out why. I was pissed at both of them for letting their insecurities rule their decisions.

"She doesn't love me.She found out I was going to propose and ran."

Still Human starts almost immediately after Just Human ended. Both Liv and Danny are at their respective homes nursing their wounded hearts. Both are still sure that they loved the other more because of the perceived reasons they for Liv's departure. After being left holding a ring for the second time Danny is done, he throws himself into his work and gives up. Liv is holed up in her apartment not eating or living. They are both licking their wounds the best way that they know how.

Jen and Max are over their behaviour though. Jen convinces Danny to call Max to find out why Liv left, as she is sure it is not because of Liv's lack of love for Danny. After talking to Max, Danny knows that what has happened is a huge misunderstanding, one that he has to fix. If Liv will trust him enough to let him. However when he inadvertently hears that Liv is hurt his time frame is moved up. A lot.

"Don't worry, I won't hurt you this time."

I love Liv and Danny. I love them alone and I love them more together. However when they weren't together my heart ached for them. They are each other's lobster. I was so happy when Danny figured out the actual reason that Liv had left I was so happy. I knew that he would do anything to win her back. And he did. He really did. Liv, however, was having none of it. Even after talking to Max she would not give Danny a chance. I nearly cried because of her hard-headedness.

When she does finally talk to him I was so incredibly happy. I completely expected her to listen, know he was being honest and completely forgive him. I could not have been more wrong. After the first time that they speak I was sent on an emotional roller-coaster. Every time that they spoke or were in the same room I full expected Liv to fall into his arms, every time that she let her stubbornness keep him at arms length I believed more and more that they would never go back to what they were.

"You told me once that you were afraid I would turn out to be just human and that I would hurt you.  I told you then that I am just human and that I could be hurt just as easily.  Well I'm still human... I'm still me and I know we could still destroy each other.  But I don't care, because a life without you isn't worth living... I dare you."  He whispers with a cheeky tone.  "Let me back in, you won't regret it."

There is just so much to say about this book. I could go on and on. It was so well written, and so emotional that I am sure that I will have to revisit Liv and Danny in the future. Kerry did a great job with Just Human but she completely blew herself out of the water with Still Human. I'd gladly keep reading about Liv, Danny and the crew until Kerry got tired of writing them.

If you like angst and to feel a little bit like someone punched you right in the gut, you should definitely read this story. I loved all of the unconventionality that was included in the story of Liv and Danny. Thank you, Kerry Williams, for giving us these characters to love.

I have to think on my feet, I’m so used to having this conversation one sided that I can’t think of anything to actually say to her. The silence stretches out before me.

“I don’t know what to say,” I admit.

“You called me,” she points out.

“I know, but I wasn’t expecting you to answer.”

She sighs. “Danny, this is pointless, you have to stop calling me.”

“I can’t,” I whisper.

“It’s over,” she says with no conviction at all.

“But, I love you,” I tell her, “And you love me. So how can it be over?” I feel stronger now, she’s coming around.

She doesn’t reply.

“I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardise our future.”

“I saw her, Danny.”

“Nothing happened,” I say calmly.

She lets out a long breath. “It doesn’t matter. It’s too late.”

“Liv, it’s…”

“Don't, please. We never should have started this. It was always going to end this way. Go back to your life Danny and I’ll go back to mine.”

“It doesn’t have to end at all,” I say softly. “I know you love me. Tell me you don’t.”

“It’s too hard, you’re too far away.” Her voice is choked with emotion. Then, after a short pause, the line goes dead.
