SARAH'S 3.5-STAR REVIEW
HER is a companion novel to Carey Heywood's HIM. It can be read as a stand alone. It goes beyond the ending of HIM so, if you are looking for more of Sarah & Will this is where to find it!! I actually read HER BEFORE HIM because I prefer the male POV.
I'm unsure as to review this book. After reading both books I'm torn as to how much of a change in perspective this book was and how much was just subtle changed in pronouns and sexual organs. I honestly ended up skimming through many of the scenes in HIM that were in HER for that reason. IF there was a particular spot in which I wanted to know exactly what she was thinking then I read more thoroughly but otherwise it was a skim-fest.
HIM & HER is one story in two books. It is a story of a second chance at love. It was really quite adorable. I loved that they were so instrumental in helping each other through the trials and tribulations of Middle School and High School. Sure their problems were completely different but that didn't matter they always supported one another. I was never so happy as when Will FINALLY bit the bullet and let Sarah know that he wanted her.
When she left, I must admit, I cheated (since I read HER first!) to find out why she had left. I won't say why for the readers who haven't read either book. I was kind of pissed at her. I understand why she was SO pissed but I really think that she owed it to Will to at least speak to him before running away. ARGH!! I'm angry at her even now for putting him through that kind of devastation!!
All in all this is a really sweet story of second chance love. Not super angsty, not incredibly happy. Just one boy and one girl getting a real chance at the happiness they so deserve.
