Fraternizing by C.C. Brown ~ Blog Tour and Review by Sarah

SYNOPSIS

Sometimes rules must be broken.
Sometimes your beliefs are challenged.
Other times... you just have to follow your heart.

For Marine Corps Sgt. Alex Cruz, the Corps' rules and regulations have served as a blueprint for how he should live his life. In his mind, the way to maintaining proper conduct and order relied heavily on the ability of the individual to follow orders without question. Alex was that individual.

Until...
Pfc. Cassie Bennett.

She is brand new to the Corps, looking to cement a place in the world for herself after breaking free from the oppressive life she's lived with her mother. Making it in the Corps is her way of showing her mother that she is more than she thinks she is, while also proving to herself she can survive one of life's biggest challenges.

Both Alex and Cassie are tested when an intensely strong attraction develops between them. They feel it, they want it, but one thing stands in their way... The Marine Corps order on Fraternizing. Their lust filled thoughts, their strong and aching cravings for one another, and their conflicted minds lead them on a roller coaster of emotions and feelings that neither can ignore, no matter how hard they try.

Loyalties will be tested, hearts will be broken, and careers will hang in the balance. Can Alex and Cassie keep their forbidden relationship a secret, or will they lose it all by Fraternizing?

SARAH'S 4-STAR REVIEW

Fraternizing was a new spin on forbidden romance.  One that doesn't cross all of those taboo lines that so many people find offensive.  It is a nice way for those people to dip their toes into this subject matter.

Alex is just looking for a good time when he starts dancing with the gorgeous girl at the bar.  Lord knows there is a lot of steam he has to blow off.  Despite the fact that their encounter never makes it to the bedroom as he had hoped, he can't get said girl off of his mind.  Imagine his shock when he walks into his class on Monday and he sees the beauty from the bar.  Pfc. Cassie Bennett is impossible for him to ignore and even more impossible to forget.  Which is not an option for him.  Fraternizing is absolutely off-limits in the Marines.  And Alex is nothing if not the model Marine.

'I sure am.  Because when I want something, I don't give up.  I'll fight the entire goddamned Marine Corps to be with you.'

The more time that the spend together, in and out of class, the less they can control their urges.  When they decide to take a chance and see each other in secret they both know how much they are risking.  Fortunately they are able to keep it relatively quiet, the few people who do know have plenty of reasons to not expose them.  However, when something happens to Cassie all bets are off on keeping their relationship secret.

"Is that what you think?  That I just want to fuck you and move on?  Do you even realize what I stand to lose if anyone were to find out what we've got going on here?  Even though I haven't had the pleasure of fucking you 'til you can't speak anymore?"  His eyebrows shot up, almost as if he were waiting on a response.  "I'm selected to pick up Staff Sergeant in a couple of months.  That shit would me gone faster than I can blink.  I'd probably be busted down in rank, restricted to the barracks, lose pay, and possibly face brig time all over frivolous fucking with some random student of mine."  The words came out with a hiss, his teeth clenched as the veins bulged in his neck.  "Now does this sound like the need to fuck and run to you?"

I really have a thing for men in uniform, so I knew going into this book that Alex was probably going to do it for me.  And he really delivered.  He was all hot, and alpha male, definitely all male.  With man issues and ideas and screw-ups.  He felt real.  Alex did have his ultra sweet moments, and I loved him all the more for those!

"I just made love for the first time in my life," I told her, moving her hair so that I could get a good look at her after she'd just changed me for the better."What?" Shock swept through her face as she sat up and straddles me with my cock still inside of her."You just made a real man out of me.  I've never done that before."

Cassie had a bit of a shit hand dealt to her by way of her mother.  She made the best of it however and did everything that she could to become more than she had been told she could be.  She is so focused on succeeding in the Marines that you knew, without anything else being said that she had to have incredible feelings for Alex to risk it all.

"You don't owe me a goddamned thing, Blondie, but I am asking you to take another chance on me.  Remember what I was capable of doing to you within just a few seconds of our eyes locking, our bodies touching, our hearts melding.  I'd light my fucking face on fire if it meant I could take back all of the bullshit, but I can't.  I just need you to take a leap, to see that I'll catch you.  I won't let you fall."

I really liked the plot of this book.  Yes, there were parts that were kind of predictable but there were a fair amount of plot points that were unexpected.  That being said, I HATE cliffhangers, and this had a huge one.  Not concerning the relationship between Alex and Cassie, we pretty much know where they stand.  But their entire future is completely up in the air when the book ends.  ARGH!!

"I made the choice to start sleeping with one of my students.  I didn't know I'd fall in love with her, but I have, and right or wrong, I'm glad it happened and I wouldn't change it for anything.  So whatever happens, happens.  If they want to be ashamed or disappointed in me fine.  If they want to continue idolizing me, fine.  The fact of the matter is, you are what fucking matters to me.  How you see me matters.  Your approval is all I'm looking for."

I think that this book is a pretty tame read for those people looking to get into the subject matter of taboo love.  Yes, there is a student/teacher relationship but they are both adults, so it's not quite as off-limits as some of those books are.  I think that it is a great book for someone looking for something that blurs the line between right and wrong.

'She was my life line--the air to my fucking lungs, the blood to my fucking heart.  I knew that there was nothing else in the world more important than her.'

AUTHOR BIO

Just a book reading, writing loving, mommy and USMC wife! :) I love to write, even if it isn't what is conventional and makes everyone feel giddy inside. I usually pull from dreams, or ideas that just thrust themselves into my head. I have what some would describe as a dry sense of humor, and I think its conveyed in my writing. I like to think I am a kick ass chick, but I can also be sensitive. I'm learning to grow thick skin, and in this field, it is definitely needed! I won't put anything out that I am not absolutely proud of, but like E.L. James said, "I can't own people's reactions to it." Thanks for reading my work... I do appreciate it!
