*** REVIEW *** DIRTY LIKE BRODY

Dirty Like Brody blurb:

He was all she ever wanted. Then she broke his heart…

As longtime manager of Dirty, the hottest rock band on the planet, gorgeous and brooding Brody Mason has had his share of beautiful women. Yet the only one he’s ever wanted is the one he never had—the one who tore his heart out.

Beautiful and elusive Jessa Mayes appears to have it all. Talent, money, and a glamorous life. But she also has a secret. Six years ago, she ran away—from her dream career as a songwriter with Dirty, and the only man she’s ever loved—without telling anyone why.

Now Jessa’s doing the one thing she swore she’d never do. She’s coming home—to be a bridesmaid in her brother’s rock star wedding… and face the mistakes of her past.

It won’t be easy.

Love this intense never is.

Dirty Like Brody is the third book and second full-length novel in Jaine Diamond’s Dirty series.  Dirty is the name of a rock band that hits it big.   They are now dealing with the many issues that rock bands face; relationships, drugs, a lot of money quick, etc.  Each book in the series examines the life of a band member and his/her attempt to adjust to the fame, enjoy life in the spotlight and find a lasting, loving relationship.

I can’t decide if this is my favorite of the first two novels (I like both), but I can say it has a little bit of everything I like in a good romance.  Drama, (there is a lot of drama) good characters that have a fair amount of demons running around in their past, moreover their personalities and chemistry are captivating, and finally, there is rock and roll.  Dirty Like Brody examines Brody and Jessa struggles.

Brody is the band’s manager.  He grew up with Jesse, Jessa, and some of the other band members.  He works hard to make the band a successful business.   Dirty is his focus more than anything else including relationships.  We find out that he has loved Jessa since they were kids.  Unfortunately, he was too old for her when they first met and Jessa was too young to realize he did the right thing—waiting.

Jessa Messa has a lot of talent.  She is a talented songwriter her major contribution to the band.  The death of her parents has a significant impact on the young girl.  The pain and loss are the impetus for making a lot of bad decisions--the biggest--running from Brody and the band.  She left music and her life and became a top model. However, she never stops loving Brody.

As I said earlier, there is a lot of drama.  Jessa is home after almost seven years for her brother’s wedding.  It is a small intimate affair, and Jessa is going to spend a lot of time with Brody.  Anyone who read the first book knows that Jessa has issues.  It worries Jesse.  He sees her sadness, is afraid for her and doesn't know what to do to help her.  Jessa has secrets that she keeps from everyone that explains why she runs away.  Why she is so unhappy and why she never responds to Brody’s text or phone calls.

Jessa and Brody are complicated characters with red hot chemistry.  I like them both even if Jessa did put off talking to Brody a little too long for me.  I know this is a typical romance writer’s technique, but I find it annoying.  I like adults to act more mature and communicate.  Honest communication is a personal preference, but since it is not common in romance novels, my guess is it doesn’t sell.

Jaine’s writing style works well.  In telling the story, Ms. Diamond uses flashbacks to reveal Jessa's and Brody’s past and get in their head.  The technique is used effectively and gives the reader a lot of insight into what these two went through in their youth.  They survive a complicated youth, and some choices and the hurtful things said were the reasons behind what, on the surface, appears to be irrational.

Overall, I enjoyed Dirty Like Brody, and I love the series so far.  Brody’s pain at the way Jessa treats him and his love for her jumps off the page.  He struggles to understand why she left him and now pushes her away to protect his heart.  It is painful.

What I loved most about the story is that it is wrapped up with a satisfying ending.   There is a major tease for the next book too that sounds wonderfully deceitful.  I’m looking forward to reading it.  Dirty Like Brody has a lot to love about the story in general and this couple in particular.  If you are a fan of rock star romances or romance novels in general, you need to read Dirty Like Brody.  I am a Jaine Diamond fan and looking forward to more.

Final reminder:  Jaine Diamond “DEEP” you know what I mean.
