The more wicked the sin, the more deadly the consequence.

He flashed back to the night he’d killed her. He’d sat in a black van parked right next to her car in the parking garage. It had taken hours for her to emerge. He’d nearly fallen asleep waiting for her. He heard the sound of her heels clicking on the pavement and looked up to see her make her way to her car. He’d watched and waited, his hands nearly breaking the steering wheel as she approached. His stomach was in knots and his palms were sweaty and shaking. She got to her car and fumbled with her keys. He quickly pulled his baseball cap down to cover his face and tugged at his black hooded sweatshirt and pulled it up as he jumped out of the van.
Well
Shit! That’s all I can say right
now—Just Shit. I’ve had a recent run of
good, suspenseful, romantic mysteries and Wicked
Little Sins is one of the best of the lot.
The story begins with the four Harper siblings traveling
from different parts of the country back to Ohio for the funeral of their
beloved mother. She is the victim of a
horrific murder and no one knows why.
The first thought is that she is attacked by one of her psychiatric
patients but that doesn’t turn out to be the case.
Holly Hood is an
excellent writer. She takes the reader
on a journey with the four siblings that both gives insight into their life,
loves, careers, and fears along with hints at the pending doom that is right
around the corner.
Each one of the Harper children have distinct personality
traits that separate them into uniquely individuals. Charley is the most mature even though she
isn’t the oldest. She takes charge of
the family the way she takes charge as editor of the publishing company where
she works. She doesn’t have a man in her
life until she meets Adrian at the airport
Everly is a successful singer and engaged to marry
Vinnie. She wonders about their
relationship and the whole trip has both of them question if marriage is really
what they want.
Quinn is the spoiled sibling. Like her mother says she has all of her
mother’s bad qualities. It isn’t easy to
like Quinn but I think something is there under all her negatives. Jordan, the
man who loves her, is hot but Quinn treats him like crap. They are one of those couple you look at and
wonder why they are together.
Ethan, the only brother, is a college student. He is the one who can’t believe the story of
his mother’s murder and begins his own detective work into her murder.
This story is organized in a way that each chapter has a
section that focuses on one sibling and where they are in their journey dealing
with the loss of their mother. This
structure also builds up the suspense because the reader knows that there are
reveals that are harbingers of danger. The
story is a real nail biter. I had to put
the book down a couple times and walk away to give my heart a minute to slow
down.
I can’t give any more details because it will give away too
much. The story ends on a cliffhanger
but it is so well written that I couldn’t deduct my usual one star for taking
me to the end and leaving me hanging. Suffice
it to say I can’t wait for book two. If
you like a good suspenseful read with romance and mystery you need to get this
book.
